They had been searching since sunset for a boy who did not come to work. He had been late for many days with many excuses and his father, his boss, and the other workers were tired of the excuses. Now he had fled and they could not find him. He had not been sick or had any doctor’s note and there was not any trace of where he had fled or why he had been so late for work. His father was the best hope for finding him. He was as mad as a charging bull.
The boy, Jason, had not come to work today and his shift had started a long time ago. Suddenly they saw him; he was standing in the bed of a truck that was driving past them. His brother Triff was behind the wheel.
His father yelled, “Jason my son, get off of that truck and come talk to the boss!”
Jason did not hesitate; he simply raised his gun and fired. He yelled, “Step on the gas and run them all over! I want good dinner tonight and those people look really good.”
His father fell but he was not hurt badly. The main boss was standing in front and the bullet that hit Jason’s father blew the boss apart. Jason’s father jumped up and screamed “Get him!” and ran after the truck.
Jason fired again and hit his father cutting him as he jumped away from the shot. The truck was already driving away and gaining speed.
Jason turned to his brother Triff and said, “Let’s leave town. I am sick of cutting wood at the mill.”
Triff drove the truck faster and faster until gunfire made him spin the truck. Triff and Jason were both hit by many bullets and the truck was also hit. The truck leapt off the road and became a ball of fire. Triff and Jason were dragged out of the truck by their father and looked at.
Their father said, “Why did you run off in the company truck?”
Jason said, “I did not like working at the wood mill and smelling wood pulp and cut lumber.”
Triff and Jason were not hurt very badly as they had been wearing protective gear.
Triff said, “I hate the mill and wanted to show what I felt about your sick mill that you made me work at.” Triff and Jason knew it was the end of the line for the job they had at the mill.
Jason said, “Father, don’t tell mother about what I just did.”
His father looked at him and yelled into his face, “She will know as you killed the boss of the mill and killing is not the way to get out of your job.”
Triff yelled, “I agree with Jason. We hated this job and the boss would not listen so death was right for him.” They jumped up and ran. Their father and all of the other workers ran after them but it was already too late. A large truck was sitting at the side of the road with the keys in the ignition and Jason and Triff jumped into the truck and took off down the road. Their father drove after them but the truck lost control and crashed. The fireball that jumped into the air told their father that Jason and Triff would not be telling their mother any more about anything.
